Office of Institutional Research


The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) is responsible for campus-wide institutional research activities and initiatives, including the organization, collection and analysis of campus data in response to requests from internal and external organizations.

UCSF Learner Facts

The total learner population in fall 2023 is 6,032:

  • Enrolled Students: 3,139 (excluding16 on filing fee status and 209 off-campus in joint programs)
  • Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Residents and Fellows: 1,776
  • Postdoctoral Scholars: 1,117

Of the 939 new students in the fall 2023 entering class:

  • 67% were women
  • 50% were California residents
  • 30% were first generation in their family to have attended college
  • 53% were first generation in their family to attend graduate school
  • 13% were born outside the U.S. They came from 57 different countries.

In the 2022-2023 academic year, UCSF awarded a total of 1044 degrees, including 100 certificates, 329 master's, 134 PhDs, and 481 professional degrees.
