Office of Institutional Research

The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) is responsible for campus-wide institutional research activities and initiatives, including the organization, collection and analysis of campus data in response to requests from internal and external organizations.

UCSF Learner Facts

The total learner population in fall 2019 is 5,868:

  • Students: 3,212 (excluding 236 off-campus in joint programs)
  • Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Residents and Fellows: 1,659
  • Postdoctoral Scholars: 1,180

Of the 935 new students in the fall 2019 entering class:

  • 67% were women
  • 63% were California residents
  • 22% were first generation in their family to have attended college
  • 41% were first generation in their family to attend graduate school
  • 12% were born outside the U.S. They came from 31 different countries.

In the 2018-2019 academic year, UCSF awarded a total of 913 degrees, including 49 certificates, 301 master's, 131 PhDs, and 432 professional degrees.
