Office of Institutional Research


The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) is responsible for campus-wide institutional research activities and initiatives, including the organization, collection and analysis of campus data in response to requests from internal and external organizations.

UCSF Learner Facts

The total learner population in fall 2020 is 6,094:

  • Enrolled Students: 3,215 (excluding14 on filing fee status and 236 off-campus in joint programs)
  • Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Residents and Fellows: 1,713
  • Postdoctoral Scholars: 1,166

Of the 964 new students in the fall 2020 entering class:

  • 65% were women
  • 61% were California residents
  • 27% were first generation in their family to have attended college
  • 48% were first generation in their family to attend graduate school
  • 12% were born outside the U.S. They came from 35 different countries.

In the 2019-2020 academic year, UCSF awarded a total of 959 degrees, including 65 certificates, 312 master's, 133 PhDs, and 449 professional degrees.
