Office of Institutional Research

The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) is responsible for campus-wide institutional research activities and initiatives, including the organization, collection and analysis of campus data in response to requests from internal and external organizations.

UCSF Learner Facts

The total learner population in fall 2018 is 5,868:

  • Students: 3,153 (excluding 228 off-campus in joint programs)
  • Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Residents and Fellows: 1,604
  • Postdoctoral Scholars: 1,111

Of the 906 new students in the fall 2018 entering class:

  • 65% were women
  • 62% were California residents
  • 27% were first in their generation to graduate from college
  • 45% were first in their generation to attend graduate school
  • Eleven percent of the new members in our community were born outside the U.S. They came from 31 different countries.

In the 2017-2018 academic year, UCSF awarded a total of 885 degrees and 57 certificates across all programs in 2018.
